Assessing our biological capital and 2009 AGM

Thursday 5th November 2009

This was a joint meeting between the Environmental Statistics Section and the British and Irish Region of the International Biometric Society. With one of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s targets due in 2010, a rigorous statistical basis for an assessment of biodiversity was presented. This was paired with talks on existing work and how ecologists can develop improved studies incorporating these ideas. Other topics covered included statistical inference from detected animal movements, use of integrated population modelling, experimental approaches and assessment of functional diversity.

The speakers were: Steve Buckland (University of St Andrews), Jan Dick (CEH), Paul Blackwell (University of Sheffield), Mark Brewer (BioSS), Chiara Mazetta (Warwick University) and JonBarry (CEFAS).

The 2009 AGM was held at lunch time.
